Choose Joy Takes to Tapeta in Miami Shores Win

Oct 2, 2021
Sunday’s Rainbow 6 Jackpot Pool Guaranteed at $400,000
All Quality Brings All-Weather Experience into Feature

– Trainer Stephen Dwoskin’s Choose Joy made her Tapeta debut a winning one Saturday at Gulfstream Park, where the 4-year-old daughter of Munnings claimed her third consecutive overnight handicap trophy in the $60,000 Miami Shores.

Choose Joy, the 4-5 favorite ridden by Miguel Vasquez, came into the 5 ½-furlong event for fillies and mares on Gulfstream’s all-weather course off back-to-back overnight handicap victories on turf.

“All she wants to do is win,” Dwoskin said. “She’s like Tom Brady.”

Choose Joy carried 126 pounds, conceding 9-10 pounds to her six rivals. The Kentucky-bred filly, who has two wins on dirt and four victories on turf to her credit, added an all-weather score to her credit in her usual off-the-pace style. She settled several lengths off pacesetter Cat’s Astray while racing on the outside before making an extended drive around the far turn to enter contention entering the stretch. Choose Joy kicked in with her usual energy in the stretch to prevail by 2 ½ lengths.

Choose Joy ran 5 ½ furlongs in 1:05.85 to give Vasquez his third straight victory on Saturday’s card. Naughty Shirley rallied late to finish second, a neck ahead of Awsum Roar.

One race earlier on the program, Vasquez rode trainer Michael Yates’ homebred Full Disclosure to an impressive debut victory in a 5 ½-furlong maiden special weight for Florida-bred 2-year-olds

The daughter of Cajun Breeze, a full sister to multiple-stakes winner Cajun Casanova, led throughout under to hold off the late charge of So Determined, the 4-5 favorite trained by Todd Pletcher.

Sunday’s Rainbow 6 Jackpot Pool Guaranteed at $400,000

The 20-cent Rainbow 6 jackpot pool will be guaranteed at $400,000 Sunday at Gulfstream Park, where the popular multi-race wager went unsolved Saturday for the 13th racing day since a Sept. 10 mandatory payout produced multiple payoffs of $313,299.84

The Rainbow 6 jackpot is paid out when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 70 percent of that day’s pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners, while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool.

The Rainbow 6 sequence will span Races 4-9, featuring a mile-and-70-yard optional claiming allowance for fillies and mares on the Tapeta course. Mark Casse-trained All Quality, the 3-1 morning-line favorite, is the only horse with a victory over an all-weather surface. The daughter of Quality Road won her debut over the all-weather surface at Woodbine June 15, 2019 but has raced exclusively on turf ever since. All Quality is coming off a close-up second-place finish at Gulfstream in her most recent start.
