Beat the Expert

Get ready for Championship Meet’s #BeatTheExpert!

Every Friday during Championship Meet, submit your pick for each race’s winner below. If you select more winners than our expert of the week, you could win* an exclusive Gulfstream Park #BeatTheExpert polo shirt!

Meet our Experts:

Ron Nicoletti: A longtime handicapper, Ron has spent the better part of the last 15 years as a staple of Gulfstream Park. An icon in South Florida and throughout the racing industry, he has a proven track record of picking winners. He does his homework and has accumulated years of industry knowledge about horses, trainers, jockeys, and breeding to guide his selections.

“There is so much involved. As much as you put in is as much as you get out…if you love to figure out problems, this is the game. Figure it out, you get awarded immediately afterwards.” – Ron Nicoletti

Acacia Courtney: a TV analyst and broadcast journalist in the world of horse racing, she covers the biggest events around the country such as the Triple Crown, Breeders' Cup, and the Pegasus World Cup.

“For me, speed figures are most helpful when looking at how horses in a particular race match up against one another. Noticing if one horse’s last race, or last few races, earned a figure that was especially high or especially low can help differentiate in an evenly matched field. It’s also helpful to see pretty clearly if a horse is on the improve or on the decline. Often, being able to find a horse that you don’t want to use is just as helpful as finding one that you do.” – Acacia Courtney

Ashley Mailloux: a horse racing broadcaster and analyst who is becoming known as a phenom. After graduating with a mathematics degree, she earned a master’s in applied mathematics, concentrating in statistics. She has been involved in the industry through many different roles, including handicapper, paddock reporter and trackside interviewer. Mailloux has been a part of the Horse Racing Radio Network and appears frequently on handicapping shows for America’s Best Racing.

“It’s very strange to find someone in their 20s who not only loves racing and is passionate and extremely intelligent about it, but is willing to work hard to get her work done,” said Dan Tordjman, ABR’s manager of partnerships and sponsorships. “She’s always prepared for the shows and absolutely does a great job.”

Submit your selections below and good luck!

*If you selected more winners than the Expert of the Week, you will be entered into a pool of eligible winners who have also selected more winners than the Expert of the Week. Three eligible winners will be randomly selected to win the polo shirt.
