Session with Hall of Fame Trainer at 2 P.M. in Breezeway
HALLANDALE BEACH, FL
– The day before sending out Grade 1-placed millionaire Bravazo in the $9 million Pegasus World Cup Invitational (G1), Hall of Fame trainer D. Wayne Lukas will sign copies of a book about his life and career Friday at Gulfstream Park.
Lukas will be available starting at 2 p.m. in the breezeway to sign ‘Sermon on the Mount: The Wisdom and Life Experiences of Hall of Fame Trainer D. Wayne Lukas,’ written and compiled by Lukas and Christina Bossinakis with a foreward by NFL Hall of Fame coach and longtime Thoroughbred owner Bill Parcells.
Copies of the book will be available for sale for $40 each.
Lukas, 83, has won 4,808 races and more than $279 million in purses in a career that includes 26 Eclipse Award champions and five personal Eclipse Awards, four as leading trainer. Among his victories are 14 in the Triple Crown series including a string of six straight from the 1994 Preakness (G1) to the 1996 Kentucky Derby (G1). He has won the Preakness six times and the Derby and Belmont Stakes (G1) four times each, with 20 Breeders’ Cup victories.
Calumet Farm’s Bravazo ran 11 times in 2018 with three wins, led by the Risen Star (G2). He went winless in his last nine starts but finished second in the Preakness, Haskell (G1) and Clark Handicap (G1), the later Nov. 23 in his most recent outing. He also ran third in the Travers (G1) and Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile (G1) behind fellow Pegasus contender City of Light.
