Japan’s Aerolithe Headed to Pegasus World Cup Turf

HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – The connections of Aerolithe, a Grade 1-winning filly in Japan, have made travel arrangements to Gulfstream Park to run in the inaugural $7 million Pegasus World Cup Turf (G1) Saturday Jan. 26, the richest turf race in North America. 

Aerolithe, winner of the NHK Mile Cup (G1) as a 3-year-old, has placed first or second in 13 career starts, including a victory Oct. 7 in the Mainichi Okan (G2) and a second-place finish June 3 in the Yasuda Kinen (G1). The 4-year-old daughter of Kurofune, a son of French Deputy, is trained by Takanori Kikuzawa. 

Plans are for Aerolithe to arrive at Gulfstream Wednesday, Jan. 16. Kikuzawa is planning to arrive on Jan. 19.

The Pegasus World Cup Turf is part of the Pegasus World Cup Championship Invitational Series, which also includes the $9 million Pegasus World Cup Invitational, the richest dirt race in North America. The World Cup will also be run on Jan. 26. The World Cup, inaugurated in 2017, has been won by Longines World’s Best Horse Arrogate and Horse of the Year Gun Runner.

Margoth’s Gunnevera worked five furlongs at Gulfstream Park West Saturday in 1:01.80, the second fastest of 29 at the distance. The Antonio Sano-trained 4-year-old will enter the $9 million Pegasus World Cup off a second-place finish in the Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) behind Horse of the Year candidate and confirmed Pegasus starter Accelerate. “He’s going really good,” Sano said. “Every time he gets better and better.”…Seeking the Soul, second in the Breeders’ Cup Mile (G1) and fifth in last year’s Pegasus World Cup, breezed six furlongs at Fair Grounds in 1:11…Florida Derby (G1) winner Audible, second Dec. 15 in the Harlan’s Holiday (G3),  breezed a four furlongs at Palm Beach Downs in :49.80…
